NUMBERS 10

And spoke to Moses, and said, 2 Make two silver trumpets; make them of hammered work, and use them for summoning the congregation and for striking camp. 3 And when they blow both of them, all the congregation shall assemble before you at the door of the tent of meeting. 4 But if they blow only one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall assemble before you. 5 When you sound an alert, the camps that are pitched on the east side shall set out. 6 When you sound an alert a second time, the camps that are pitched on the south side shall set out; they shall sound an alert whenever they are to set out. 7 But when you summon the assembly, you shall blow, but shall not sound an alert. And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. And this shall serve you as a statute for ever throughout your generations. 9 And when you go to war in your land against an adversary who oppresses you, you shall sound an alert on the trumpets; so you shall be remembered before Yehowah your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. 10 Also on your day of gladness, and at your appointed times, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt-offerings and over the sacrifices of your communion-offerings; and this shall serve you as a memorial before your God; I am Yehowah your God.

11 Now in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month, the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the Testimony; 12 and the sons of Israel set out in their order from the desert of Sinai; and the cloud settled down in the desert of Paran. 13 And they set out for the first time, at the word of Yehowah through Moses. 14 And the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah set out first, by their armies; and over his army was Nahshon the son of Amminadab. 15 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar. 16 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.

17 And when the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set out, carrying the tabernacle. 18 Then the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their armies; and over his army was Elizur the son of Shedeur. 19 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. 20 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things; and the others set up the tabernacle before their arrival. 22 Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set out by their armies; and over his army was Elishama the son of Ammihud. 23 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 24 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.

25 Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan set out, the rear-guard of all the camps throughout their armies; and over his army was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 26 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel the son of Okhran. 27 And over the army of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan. 28 This was the order of march of the sons of Israel by their armies, when they set out.

29 And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, the father-in-law of Moses, We are about to set out to the place of which Yehowah said, I will give it to you. Come with us, and we will treat you well, for Yehowah has promised good to Israel. 30 But he said to him, I will not come; for I will go to my own land and to my people. 31 And he said, Please do not leave us; for you know that we are to camp in the desert, and you can serve as eyes for us. 32 And it shall certainly be that if you go with us, then whatever good Yehowah grants to us, we will grant to you.

33 So they set out from the mountain of Yehowah on a three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of Yehowah went before them on the three days' journey, to search out a resting-place for them. 34 And the cloud of Yehowah was over them during the day, when they set out from the camp.

35 And whenever the ark set out, Moses would say, Arise, O Yehowah, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let those who hate thee flee before thee. 36 And when it rested, he would say, Return, O Yehowah, to the countless thousands of Israel.
