LEVITICUS 16
Then Yehowah spoke to Moses after the death of Aaron's two sons, when they offered unholy fire before Yehowah and died; 2 and Yehowah said to Moses, Tell your brother Aaron that not even he is to come at all times into the sanctuary within the veil, before the mercy-seat which is upon the ark, or else he will die; for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy-seat. 3 But in this way shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bull from the herd for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering. 4 He shall put on the sacred linen tunic, and the linen breeches shall be on his body, and he shall have a linen girdle round him, and shall wear the linen turban; these are the sacred robes; therefore he shall bathe his body in water, and then put them on. 5 And from the congregation of the sons of Israel he shall take two he-goats from the flock for a sin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering.
6 And Aaron shall bring the bull of the sin-offering which is for himself, and shall make a reconciliation for both himself and his household. 7 Then he shall take the two goats, and present them before Yehowah at the door of the tent of meeting; 8 and Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats: one for Yehowah and the other for Azazel. 9 And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the lot falls for Yehowah, and shall present it for a sin-offering. 10 But the goat on which the lot falls for Azazel shall be presented alive before Yehowah, so as to make a reconciliation with it, to send it away for Azazel into the desert.
11 Then Aaron shall bring the bull of the sin-offering which is for himself, and shall make a reconciliation for both himself and his household, and shall slaughter the bull of the sin-offering which is for himself. 12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coal from the altar before Yehowah, and a double handful of incense of spices beaten small, and shall take it within the veil; 13 and he shall put the incense on the fire before Yehowah, so that the cloud of incense covers the mercy-seat which is upon the Testimony, so that he does not die. 14 And he shall take some of the bull's blood, and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the mercy-seat towards the east; and he shall sprinkle the blood with his finger seven times before the mercy-seat.
15 Then he shall slaughter the goat of the sin-offering which is for the people, and shall take its blood within the veil; and he shall do with its blood as he did with the bull's blood, and shall sprinkle it upon the mercy-seat and before the mercy-seat. 16 In this way he shall make a reconciliation for the sanctuary because of the uncleannesses of the sons of Israel and their transgressions in all their sins; and he shall do the same for the tent of meeting which remains with them in the midst of their uncleannesses. 17 And there shall be no one in the tent of meeting when he goes in to make the reconciliation in the sanctuary, till he comes out and has made a reconciliation for both himself and his household, and for all the assembly of Israel. 18 Then he shall go out to the altar which is before Yehowah and shall make a reconciliation for it; and he shall take some of the bull's blood and some of the goat's blood, and shall put it all round on the horns of the altar. 19 And he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and shall cleanse it and sanctify it from the uncleannesses of the sons of Israel.
20 Then when he has finished making a reconciliation for the holy place, the tent of meeting, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat. 21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and shall confess over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel and all their transgressions in all their sins; and he shall put them on the goat's head, and shall send it away into the desert in the hands of an appointed man. 22 And the goat shall carry all their iniquities on itself to a land cut off; and he shall send the goat away into the desert.
23 Aaron shall come into the tent of meeting, and take off the linen robes which he had put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there. 24 And he shall bathe his body in water in the holy place, and shall put on his clothing; and he shall come out and present his burnt-offering together with the people's burnt-offering, and shall make a reconciliation for himself and the people. 25 And he shall burn the fat of the sin-offering on the altar. 26 And the man who takes away the goat for Azazel shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterwards he may come into the camp. 27 And someone shall carry out of the camp the bull of the sin-offering and the goat of the sin-offering, the blood of which was brought in to make a reconciliation in the holy place; and they shall burn their skins, their -flesh, and their dung in a fire. 28 And the man who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water; and afterwards he may come into the camp.
29 And this shall be a perpetual statute for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, you shall afflict yourselves and do no work, both the homeborn and the settler who settles among you; 30 for on that day Aaron shall make a reconciliation for you, to cleanse you; you shall become clean from all your sins before Yehowah. 31 It shall be a sabbath of rest for you, and you shall afflict yourselves; it is a perpetual statute. 32 And the priest whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister as a priest in his father's place, shall make a reconciliation, and shall put on the linen clothes, the sacred robes. 33 And he shall make a reconciliation for the holy sanctuary; and he shall make a reconciliation for the tent of meeting and the altar; and he shall make a reconciliation for the priests and all the people of the assembly. 34 And this shall be a perpetual statute for you, to make a reconciliation for the sons of Israel for all their sins, once a year. And Moses did as Yehowah commanded him.
