107. [108.] I had it personally shown to me why Babel or Babylonia* was called Lucifer, son of the morning, in chapter 14 of Isaiah. That Babel is meant by Lucifer there** is apparent from preceding and following verses in that chapter (regarding which, cite what is said there), and from the fact that in the beginning Babel worships the Lord and observes His commandments more than others, with a view to dominion, but that in the process of time dominion takes priority, until at last it thrusts even the Lord from the throne and places itself upon it. * A symbolic reference here and in the Word to the Roman Catholic Church. ** i.e., in Isaiah 14:12.
