10170. The delight which accompanies love that is indeed conjugial is an internal one, because it belongs to two people's minds, and at the same time it is an external delight springing from the internal, which belongs to their bodies. But the delight accompanying love that is not really conjugial is wholly external, devoid of any internal delight; it belongs to their bodies but not their minds. The latter delight is earthly, almost like that of animals, and therefore in the course of time comes to an end; but the former delight is heavenly, of a kind that ought to exist in human beings, and is therefore lasting.
