That this signifies thus purified from evils and falsities, is evident from the signification of "sin," when by it is meant sacrifice, as being purification from evils and falsities; for in the original tongue by "sin," where sacrifices are treated of, is meant sacrifice for sin, and by "sacrifice" is signified purification from evils and falsities (n. 9990, 9991). (That in the Word sacrifice for sin is called "sin," see Leviticus 4:3, 8, 14, 20, 21, 24, 25, 29, 33, 34; 5:6, 8, 9; 16:9, 25; and elsewhere.)
