1382. At the left, farther along from there on the left shore, large, monstrous fish appear, called whales, which devour people, tearing them up in their jaws. They try to swallow them, and then vomit them out.
1382 1/2. Farthest away, on the opposite shore, very ugly faces appear, especially those of old women, which are monstrous beyond description. Such faces were shown to me before this, which are so ugly, nothing could be uglier. The creatures running about there have to be called insanities.
