3. CAUSE (Causa).
The love, which is the end, progresses through causes to effect, and to further effects even to the last; and from this it returns to the first effect, but by another way, and produces an image of love, - a semblance of the first love (80).
Illustrated by the circulation of the blood from the heart through the arteries into the veins, and so back to the heart; also by the circulation of the blood into the lungs, and its return to the heart (81).
There are end, cause and effect in each and all things that have been created; also in things civil and moral, whence the mind becomes rational (83).
