25. DELIGHTS (Deliciae), (jucundum). (See the other Index also.)
The delights of conjugial love (77-146 [CL 183; compare 69, 144, 155, 198, 293, 294, 443]).
All things of joy and of gladness are meant by delights (enumerated, 77).
Love through wisdom makes them to be felt (77; [CL 8e, 461]).
All delights are from love and its effect (78 [CL 8e, 461]).
The delights of love are all in the effect, and by this they are in the means (78 [CL 8e]).
Delights follow in order, as end, cause, and effect (82, etc.).
In conjugial love, by it and from it, all delights are in their fullness (104, 105 [CL 68, 69]).
The highest and inmost delights, which are of peace and innocence, are imperceptible; but they become perceptible as they descend; and at length in ultimates they become a delight that is sensible to the highest degree (106-109 [CL 69, 183]).
The first reason why delights become in the highest measure perceptible in ultimates, is, that they descend in order from those which are imperceptible, and in ultimates all are together (110-120 [CL 68, 69]).
The second reason is, that conjugial love affects the most minute particulars of both mind and body (120-133 [CL 68, 69]).
The third reason is, that there is communication of that love and its delights with the heavens (124-128 [CL 144]).
The fourth reason is, that those delights are according to use, and the use of conjugial love is the most excellent of all (128-131 [CL 183]).
The fifth reason is, that they have conjugial love who are in conjunction with the Lord (131-136).
Hence the delights of this love are ineffable and beyond number (136-140).
This is unknown in the world, for the reason that there is not religion (140-145 [CL 534]).
From this come the delight (jucundum), satisfaction and bliss of consorts (217-221 [CL 69, 180, 213]).
