27. (V.) Evil is first to be removed, because it is against charity (which is done by repentance), before the good that a man does is the good of charity. Since evil must first be known in order that it may be removed, therefore the Decalogue was the first of the Word, and in the whole Christian world it is also the first of the doctrine of the church. All are initiated into the church by knowing evil and not doing it, because it is against God.
