At the point of death the evil also can regard worldly things and their own possessions as worthless and think only of things eternal; but they do so when in despair of life, that is to say, when they no longer see any hope of living. Then they can also talk piously and despise worldly things, though this is more rarely the case with those who are led by the love of self.
