[259.] Jews aspire much after heaven, believing that heaven is their inheritance and that to inherit the land of Canaan is to inherit heaven, supposing, too, that there is a land of Canaan in heaven, and that the Messiah will dwell among them. They are surprised that He does not descend from there to them; but I replied that He does not wish to because they have so much discord among them, and so many enmities and animosities, and contempt for others. Also because they pray to the God of Israel not to obtain salvation, but to become rich.
