42. On conjugial love with the angels

I spoke about conjugial love with angels. They said that it is the inmost of all loves, and is such that a married person sees his partner in his animus and mind;* to such an extent that his spiritual image is there, and consequently the married person has his partner as it were within him. This is cohabitation in the spiritual sense, and this is represented by angelic ideas which cannot be expressed. This is the source of their delightful unions. * Latin: in suo animo et in sua mente. Both words mean 'mind' but are sometimes distinguished by Swedenborg.
